We summarise below the Education system in Australia through the Australian Qualification Frame ou AQF. The AQF explains the different study options and possible course articulations in Australia.

 

Australia offers 2 major study choices:

  • Vocational training: aimed at obtaining a technical career and get into the workforce within less than 2 years of study (from 6 months to 2 years); 
  • University studies: aimed at obtaining a University degree (from 3 to 9 years) and start at a managerial position.

The Australian Qualification Frame

The Australian education system follows the below AQF wheel and shows the possible study combinations you can take in Australia.

AQF Framework

You can choose from 2 different study pathways:

  • Vocational Training: qualifications include Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diploma, from Level 1 up to Level 6; they are delivered by hundreds of private and public Vocational Institutes (TAFEs and Business Colleges).
  • University: qualifications include Undergraduates (Bachelor and Honour Degrees) and Postgraduates (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters, MBA, PHD) delivered in 40 universities all over Australia (mostly public universities; only 3 universities are private); some TAFEs and private vocational institutes can also offer Bachelor degrees. 

How does my Australian degree fare internationally?

Since the Australian Education is based on the anglo-saxon system, all Australian university degrees are recognized worldwide. You can choose from 40 Universities (8 are among the 100 best universities in the world) and you can you can choose from hundreds of courses.
